Outdoor pools Galgenteich in Altenberg and outdoor pool Lauenstein
In summer there is nothing like a real refreshment in an outdoor pool. There are two addresses for bathing fun. The nearby natural swimming pool Kleiner Galgenteich with two slides and diving tower and the outdoor swimming pool Lauenstein, which is a great stopover for hiking and cycling tours.

Table tennis is for some a dynamic gap-filler – for others a serious competitive sport. One thing, however, is certain: table tennis is simply a lot of fun and connects. For this reason we also have two plates on our premises and in the house. Only the ladles and balls have to be brought by yourself. But you can also buy a set (2 ladles and 2 balls) for 6 € from us.
Soccer and volleyball court
Nothing welds groups together more than well-groomed ball sports games and sometimes you still have too much energy to fall into bed satisfied after a successful day. Our soccer and volleyball court awaits exciting matches and thrilling duels. The use of our own small field football pitch is always free of charge for our guests. And if you need more space? No problem, an artificial turf pitch is about 1 km walking distance from the hostel and can be rented for 15,00 €/hour (prices: status 2019)

The 14 eight-thousanders in the Osterzgebirge – a Saxon Himalaya?
During this interesting, several-day hiking tour, the 14 highest peaks of the Erzgebirge (measured in decimeters, of course) are climbed one after the other. For the trail there is a starter kit with the necessary hiking utensils, such as plasters, rain poncho and tour information (including stamp card). Once the stamped card has been completely stamped, the mountaineers can pick up their reward at the Altenberg tourist information office – a chic mountaineering T-shirt.
3 mountain tour – via Geisingberg, Kahleberg and Kohlhaukuppe – about 19 km
On this classic round tour three mountains of our region are wonderfully connected. After successful ascents, enjoy the rewarding views of the landscape of the Osterzgebirge. Provided you are in good physical condition, you can walk in 5 hours from Altenberg station to the best viewpoints in the region and back.
A hike close to the abyss – From the Altenberger Pinge via the mining nature trail to the mining museum
The marked mining trail around the Pinge – a 400 year old, 400m wide and 150m deep collapse crater – leads you to listed mining relics, which still tell of the 550 years of traditional mining activity in the mining town of Altenberg. In the guided version of the hike you can once a week or individually as a group get even more vivid knowledge about the mining tradition and even look into the depths from a secured viewing platform. the marked mining trail around the Pinge – a 400 year old, 400m wide and 150m deep collapse crater – leads you to listed mining relics, which still tell of the 550 years of traditional mining activity in the mining town of Altenberg.
Hiking and switching off in the ore mountains – on the comb way the nature experience
For all friends of long-distance hiking, Altenberg Youth Hostel is the ideal starting point for the 289 km long hike along the “Kammweg” of the Ore Mountains. In 17 daily stages the hike leads from Geising in the Osterzgebirge to Blankenstein. On the way are the highest elevations of the mountains. Due to the length of the hike through many lonely woods, meadows and rock formations you can enjoy nature in peace and quiet.
Stoneman Miriquidi Road
This 290-kilometer-long racing bike course leads through the Czech Egergraben and over the ridge of the Erzgebirge: a unique ride on the Ore Mountains’ Pultscholle! 4,900 vertical meters, 13 poisonous ramps between centuries-old mining tradition and the inciting competitive sports legacy of the Ore Mountains – that is the “Stoneman Miriquidi Road”.

Geisingberg Panorama Round

The start is in the direction of Geisingberg, which we leave on the right, and over the Sachsenhöhe to Lauenstein. We pass the mining nature trail and a beautiful viewpoint. It continues downhill through the small town of Lauenstein with its historic town center, castle and falconry. It then proceeds on paths between fields and meadows, the Geisingberg always in view. On the Traugotthöhe, the panorama inspires: Dresden-Elbsandstein-Mückentürmchen. Continue towards Zinnwald, past the Kohlhaukuppe to the next viewpoint “Kahleberg”, the highest point of the tour (905m). The reward is a panoramic view of Schellerhau, the gallows ponds, the health resort Altenberg, the Altenberger Pinge and of course the Geisingberg.

Passing the Galgenteich (gallows pond) over well-gravelled forest paths, you will reach Schellerhau (beautiful view). We follow the Eierkuchensteig steeply downhill into the valley of the Wild Weißeritz. In short ups and downs we drive over the Weißbachtal to Hermsdorf past the source of the Gimmlitztal spring. Then it goes to Holzhau and immediately steeply up to the crest with a small detour to the Hirschbach pond. We roll down the path to the Bahndammloipe and follow it to Neurehefeld. On the Tiroler Weg, which lives up to its name, it goes first to Schmiedeberg. Over the rails of the Weißeritztalbahn we climb the rise of the “high fire”. After a short stop in Bärenfels, the route continues uphill with a beautiful panoramic view and finally past the gallows ponds to the youth hostel.
